It is important to develop a comprehensive kinetic theory of superthermal electron transport that is equally valid in the ionosphere and in the plasmasphere, and that self-consistently couples the conjugate magnetospheric by: 2.
A self-consistent approach to superthermal electron (SE) transport along closed field lines in the inner magnetosphere is used to examine the concept of plasmaspheric transparency, magnetospheric. The effects of self-consistently including superthermal electrons in the definition of the ambipolar electric field are investigated for the case of plasmaspheric refilling after a geomagnetic storm.
The core plasma of the inner magnetosphere is cold and, potentially, could be handled based on the solutions of the variety of hydrodynamic equations discussed in Chap. Author: George V. Khazanov. This case indicates some intermediate step occurring during plasmaspheric refilling [Khazanov et al., ] and corresponds to the large L shells where electron diffuse aurora is taking place.
[27] Photoabsorption and photoionization cross sections for O, O 2, and N 2 were taken from Fennelly and by: SUPIM has qualitatively reproduced features of the F‐region electron temperatures measured by the Hintori satellite [Balan et al., ] and the MU radar [Otsuka et al., ], but quantitatively the plasmaspheric electron temperatures from SUPIM are as much as a factor of 2 too small compared to measurements from EXOS D (– km).Cited by: Refereed Publications of the Cluster and Double Star Missions.
